A Times article this morning expounded upon the problem of libraries going entirely digital — no more books! Maybe I’m just nostalgic but libraries deserve to have actual books. There is something about having that physical representation of published knowledge. This only reminds me of my post on the demise of newspapers.
UHS’ own library is getting a similar makeover. The pain in Diana Morris’ eyes grows deeper each day as she gives away hoardes of unused books, unchecked out for years. Our stacks will diminish in favor of more computers and conference rooms (and a super-quiet area!). In some ways, I realize that the path is clear because digital research is so much more efficient but you have to have some books, if even only for sentimental reasons.
