Teenage Consumerism

So I have been debating an Mp3 player purchase for a while now. Currently, I listen mostly to music online through Real Rhapsody‘s subscription service which allows me unlimited access to their music so long as I continue to subscribe. It is a lot like renting songs instead of owning them. Now that I have decided that I would like to take songs with me, especially during the summer, I wanted to purchase an Mp3 player.

I consider it a gift to myself for graduating (god knows my parents wouldn’t bother getting anything for me for graduation…). Nevertheless, I can’t help but think that my desire for such a device stems from the teenage consumerism movement outlined in this Times article where teens “need” technology gadgets because their friends have them…

Zen Micro (black) (omg, it’s not an iPod!)
