Yesterday, I got a frame for the “Theatre Kids 2005” photo for Lorna Strand’s wall. I wrote her a nice note describing the class of 2005’s gratitude for her support in each of our passions from acting to tech to music to producing. Lorna always said to never ever become an actor. I believe the quote is “You’ll starve.” Funny thing is, she wants people to prove her wrong and they have in the past. Well, I don’t know about becoming an actor but a “creative producer” sounds like fun to me. This article in the Times describes the dying breed of producers who look to innovate.
Let’s put it this way, I’m not looking for this:
…all too often Broadway’s current “producers” are actually just moneymen: deep-pocketed corporations or “conglomerations of very wealthy people” looking to be “one of 15 names over the title.”
