Whenever talking about cell phones in China, one has to mention the boom of SMS. These short messages are perhaps even more popular than calling itself simply because it costs so little. If you think ten or fifteen cents is cheap for a text message in the U.S., you are mistaken because texting here is either free or a cent or two. This craze surpasses any attempt at texting in the U.S.
I have sent 63 text messages since I arrived here on campus and received countless more. It’s too bad my phone is not more adept at typing. I’ve heard that some girls are SMS thumb champions meaning they have the fastest thumbs in the land.
