This evening I am scheduled to take a train out of Shantou to Shenzhen and then into Hong Kong for a plane flight. It’s national holiday week here and the school goes on break. So, I am taking the opportunity to go visit Trent Walker in Cambodia. Those avid followers of Trent’s Blog know that he is spending a year in Cambodia and now has decided on his projects for the next many months (language, culture, religious, and music studies). Here is the intinerary Trent sent me. I was impressed and thankful to have such an organized guide!

Thursday, 9-29: Pick Ryan up at the airport. Sambor and I will meet you just outside the terminal, where the taxi’s are. Go to Phnom Penh, have dinner, sleep.

Friday 9-30 Phnom Penh.(market, National musuem, maybe Royal Palace, silver pagoda).
Saturday 10-1 Leave for Siem Reap 7:00 AM. Arrive 1:30 PM. Visit Wat Atwear. Sleep at Socheata Hotel ($8 per night)
Sunday 10-2: Visit Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Ta Prohm, etc.
Monday 10-3: Optionally another day in Siem Reap, otherwise visit Wat Rajabo and return to Phnom Penh by 6:30 PM. If in Siem Reap, possibly visit Shadow Puppet class or River of 1000 Lingas or other ancient temples.
Tuesday 10-4: Another day returning from Siem Reap or a day in Phnom Penh.
Wednesday 10-5: Visit Tuol Sleng genocide musuem and Choek Ek killing fields. Plus CLA recording studio.
Thursday 10-6: Visit Smoat teacher/class in Kompong Speu province. Wat Langka.
Friday 10-7: Visit Tonle Bassac music and dance classes. Perhaps go to Kien Svay (rural area near Phnom Penh) for lunch and river exploration.
Saturday 10-8: in Phnom Penh, visit wats, Reyum gallery, markets, etc. Take Mr. Kellett to the airport at 6:00 PM.
You’ll likely be seeing some posts from Trent and me over the next week either in conjunction or seperately. I am excited to see a new country and to see an old timer like Trent!
