Recently, I’ve been going on and on about my latest visit to the city of Shantou in China. I have outlined a lot of the happenings at Shantou University and, in particular, the workings of Pippin in relation to the good folks at the English Language Center (ELC) headed by TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) President Dr. Jun Liu. Well, it’s good to get an alternate perspective on things so I’d like to introduce Morgan Agnew’s blog which has some amazing insights to his time at Shantou University working as an Foreign teacher in the ELC.
Morgan is a recent graduate of Whitman College (a college I applied to) in Walla Walla, Washington. After spending a full year at Shantou Univerity he is headed back to the Bay Area to pursue his math teaching certification so he can teach in the public school system (okay, I have to give him major props for that…teaching in the CA under the Governator).
Things you might find out if you visited his blog:
- Shantou produces 60% of the world’s bras, perhaps
- It’s hard to buy a hat off someone else’s head
- Two thirds of students polled in Morgan’s classes said that the government should censor politically sensitive websites
- Shantou only ever gets hit by the tails of typhoons
Oh, I know Morgan’s two cousins, Katie and Teddy, from Middlebury!
