Tomorrow, I will begin the day at 8AM with a two-hour written Chinese exam. I will then proceed to an afternoon oral proficiency test. This will determine my placement in the Middlebury Chinese Language School.
On Sunday evening, I will take the Middlebury College Language Pledge which says, “In signing this Language Pledge, I agree to use Chinese as my only language of communication while attending the Middlebury Language Schools. I understand that failure to comply with this Pledge may result in my expulsion from the School without credit or refund.” Yes, that means my life will artificially be turned into a Chinese language immersion for nine weeks.
I request your help as I make this leap of academics. Please try to keep non-essential English communication to a minimum. Yes, I will still be checking email incessantly, though. Even more helpful, should you know a little or a lot of the Chinese language is if you help me immerse myself in this process: respond to my blog posts in Chinese, write me an email in Chinese, send me an online site in Chinese, etc.
Along those lines, I will attempt to turn this blog primarily Chinese in keeping with the Language Pledge. Thanks for reading and sticking with me through this — another stage/project of this blog!
