I have some photos up from a few days in Xiamen/Gulangyu and a sidetrip to see the Tulou (earth-houses) in the Yongding countryside. Take a peek. I got a little carried away taking photos but no harm done if you have a few seconds to browse through a few more than normal. Click on the picture above to get into my Flickr site.
Picture of the Day: This was the largest tulou I visited. It was mostly empty and I played a half-price admission fee of 15RMB. Not quite as pretty as the one with lanterns and big central courtyard, but a gigantic beauty in the rolling hills nonetheless. Tulou are made out of “earth” and wood. Occasional signs ask people not to smoke in the tulou, first place I’ve seen in China ever worried about fire danger.
