When I was studying abroad in Hangzhou, China, teachers would adore students who adopted the “tea lifestyle.” You could pretty much count on teachers commenting if you toted around a thermos (preferably clear so you could discuss what type of tea you were having that day). Come late Spring, Hangzhou is unbearably hot so tea-drinking makes you all the more brave in the eyes of your professors.
Today, I visited Middlebury’s first teahouse which has been open a few months ago while I was away at NPR. John Wetzel is the owner and we chatted about his experiences in Taiwan procuring tea leaves. This afternoon, I put together an audio slideshow about John and his newly christened teahouse which should get popular in the Winter months at Middlebury.
